Local Area Network

Local Are Network (short. "LAN") is a group of computers and other devices (printers, scanners, routers etc.) which are physically in a certain company (corporative network) or even a city (city network) and connected between each other with a direct wired or wireless network connection.

Windows normally provides an access to them through "My network places". It allows you to not only see a list of all the computers, but also to access their shared resources. However, regular access to the network is not always guaranteed to work correctly, so sometimes you need special tools to obtain more precise information about the network environment.
